Breitling has long been purveyor of chronographs to pilots, but in the 1950's, the budding popularity of dive watches such as the Rolex Submariner and the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms pushed it to enter that race.

In 1957, the brand released both a time-only dive watch, the Superocean Reference 1004, and a chronograph in the form of the Reference 807. These pieces would form the beginning of a long-lasting and ever-evolving line of nautical watches beloved by many.

The watch we’re offering here is a tremendously cool, contemporary take on the Superocean that started it all — but it's also got a certain special sauce: That's right — it's machined from solid gold.

Housed in an substantil 42mm 18K red gold case with a polished, black ceramic timing bezel; a signed, screw-down crown; a sapphire crystal; and a signed, black rubber dive strap with a red gold folding clasp, it's certainly not for the faint of heart (or wrist).

The luminous, gloss-black dial features quadrant 'baton' markers and square plots with polished surrounds as well as a stylized, luminous gold handset with a square-tipped seconds hand. Its attention-grabbing attribute, however, lies within a large, white chapter ring that houses a fully graduated minute track.

Powered by Breitling’s in-house, COSC-certified automatic movement, this piece is accompanied by its factory goodies including its inner box, hangtag, and warranty card.

If you’ve been on the hunt for a robust diver with some precious-metal heft, then this Breitling is the answer to your prayers!
